Dance While You Can

It's the end of June, y'all. That means two things: it will soon be brutally humid and awful, and we're at the halfway point of the year. So, it's time for another music list!!! I know you love these. These are the records that have made 2011 awesome/bearable so far, in order of when I thought of them.

Lia Ices, Grown Unknown
Wye Oak, Civilian
Lykee Li, Wounded Rhymes
Tune-Yards, whokill
Mr. Dream, Trash Hit
Radiohead, King of Limbs
Panda Bear, Tomboy

The Mirah and Thao record is okay, I just got the WU LYF record and it's get better each time around, and I still haven't listened to the new records by Cults, Tennis, James Blake, or TV on the Radio. I'm sure they're all good. I'll get to them at some point. I also really, really like Twin-Hand Movement by Lower Dens, but that was released a year ago. I like being late to parties.

I've also been listening almost constantly to the new Beirut single, "East Harlem"/"Goshen". They're both really fucking great.

Mmmmmmmm.. music...

The Future Islands' "Beyond the Bridge" single (listen here) -- 2 interesting love songs -- was waiting in my mailbox upon returning from a wedding -- very appropriate!

Also, from the instrumental hip-hop arena, I've been listening to Clams Casino's Rainforest EP and freely downloadable intrumental mixtape; he samples Bjork, Radiohead, Imogen Heap, etc. and adds an excellent production style that is almost too heady for the MCs he sometimes gives beats to (ahem- Soulja Boy).

The 2nd half of the year seems pretty stacked as well.. highly anticipating the new Dum Dum Girls, Future Islands, Class Actress, Bjork, Little Dragon, Qwazaar & Batsauce..
